2010 Swift National Fly-In

"The Old Timers Fly-In"
Athens, TN (KMMI)

May 24th - 29th, 2010

The 2010 Swift National’s are now in the history book and what a great turnout! Perry Sisson took on the task of promoting this year’s event which was focused on bringing the “Old Timers” back. Perry did a fantastic job this year. There were over 150 registered members in attendance and over the 4 days there were between 50 and 60 Swifts on the ground and in the air above. Janie and the RRSW ladies did a great job keeping everyone well fed. As always, the planning and preparing of the food alone for this event was outstanding. Thank you Jim Roberts for preparing the steaks for the Friday night dinner, they were outstanding.

On Saturday we has a P51 arrive for a special visit. Wes Stowers brought Ain’t Misbehavin’. He was greeted on the ramp by Ed Lloyd and Michael Kennedy.

The banquet Saturday evening was simply great. There were many awards given out, however, there were a few very special awards. Ken Coughlin received the President award for outstanding service to the Swift Association. Each year Ken arrives at the parts department for the month of May and does what appears to be a year’s amount of work in that month. Each year I attend the Swift National I enjoy spending time with him in the parts room. Ken also was awarded the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award – 50 Years Accident / Incident free flying. This award was personally presented to Ken by Eddie Shields with the FAA. Congratulations Ken! The RRSW again sponsored the “Gloria Warden Memorial Award” and this year’s recipient was out great Swift hdq. Secretary and “Girl Friday,” Pam Nunley. She really takes care of us and currently wears at least five or six hats. Thank you Pam for all that you do for us! The Jeannie Piper Memorial Award was presented to Jim Renfrow.

Saturday at noon a memorial service was held for all members who passed in the prior year and especially for Jeannie Anderson who worked in the Museum.
