"Perry's 12 Easy Steps"
To Plan, Prepare & Recruit
April 2010

Just Over 1 Month Away!!!

Last month’s step was about calling 3 people who have attended the fly-ins in the past and inviting them to join us in Athens (May 24 through May 29, 2010)

Step 10, Flight Planning – For those of you flying to Athens, it’s time to get familiar with your route of flight. Are your sectionals up to date? How about your airport reference guide? It’s important to have the most current information for your trip. How about that GPS? Have you downloaded the latest updates? What about your fuel stops? Will they have fuel and what will it cost? There are several ways to check online for the cheapest fuel prices along your route of flight. Pick at least one alternate airport for each fuel stop and check it’s fuel prices as well.

Those of you who are VFR pilots, if you haven’t used Flight Following before, it does improve safety and it enhances your communication skills with ATC. I am VFR, and I use it on most of my cross countries.

If you will be driving to Athens, do you have current road maps, an Atlas or a new GPS for your vehicle? If you already have a GPS, is it loaded with the current updates?

The Old Timers Fly-In is a little over a month away and I can’t wait to see you there!
