October has arrived and there are only 8 months left till
the "2010 Old Timers Swift Fly-In".
So, you’ve
marked your calendars, you’re aware of the 2010 Fly-In
dates (May 24 through May 29, 2010) and you are not going
to let any other event during those dates, prevent you from
being in Athens, TN. GREAT JOB!
Step 4, Check
The Airplane - For those of you planning on flying your
airplane to the fly-in, it is time to make sure it will
be in airworthy condition for the trip. Here are just a
few questions you need give some thought to right now! When
does the annual run out? Is the plane in good flying and
mechanical condition? Are there some repairs you’ve
been putting off that you really need to take care of before
the fly-in next year?
What about
your communication and navigation radios? Do they work and
can you depend on them? Should you have them checked out?
Is your GPS data base up to date? Is now the time to break
down and purchase some new equipment? If the lack of radios
is the only thing keeping you from you flying your airplane
to Athens, then what are you waiting for?
If your airplane
is due for its annual in May, please start the process in
March to give yourself plenty of time to get it completed.
You will also want to put a little time on it just to make
sure it will be at its peak performance.
