Anyone try Optionshouse broker?

Hopefully there is some experienced traders on here that can help me decide on which brokerage firm would be best for a beginner. I've been watching the pinksheet stocks mostly... so the broker needs to comply with small trades and what not. Optionshouse looks like they offer a lot for the price (check out their Optionshouse review here) but is it too good to be true?

Swift Rigging

At the last National, I remember a seminar about rigging. They were talking about setting the aileron bell crank at 90 degreases and work off from that. I have also heard 87 degrease. I would also like to learn more about setting the rudder and elevators as well. Is this information printed in any of the Swift manuals? If so which one and page reference would be great. Thanks Brad

Answered: Where can I find replacement parts for the Cleveland brake assemblies for the Swift?

I had the same problem few years ago. Same company, different name (Parker-Hannifin). The disc (P/N 164-04300 or 164-14300 for Chrome) is only used on circa four aircraft (check the Parker-Hannifin catalog on-line) so you might find them in stock at a Beech, Grumman, etc. distributor.

Answered: Three- Point in the Swift

I 3 point my Swift most of the time. You have to carry power to the flair! I have a 220 hp Swift, so its very nose heavy! The landing speed are very low, so you can make shortfield landings! I don't have a steerable tail wheel and have no trouble with directional control.

Answered: Landing Gear Knee Stops

I have never seen a olio type strut, without an internal stop, let alone a ELI one without some sort of stop on the torque knees (sissors) other wise the strut could get stuck in the fully extended position putting an extreme load on the torque knee attachments. Make sure the stops make a good full surface contact with the gear leg, otherwise it could put a bending or twisting load on the attachment screw.
Answered: is there any info on relocating the trim to the left side of the cockpit.

I have not herard of relocating the trim to the side. There is a mod to utuilize C-172 trim system with the trim wheel between the seats. My former Swift (N3729K) had that mod (Field Approval). I have heard that Temco had a factory trim system like the C-172 but have no details and not included on the Type Certificate.

I suggest you check into the electric trim system STC from Don Bartholomew. I installed it -- easy to install and works great. Per the STC, you must use a switch on the panel but you can parallel a stick-mounted rocker switch. Check Don's web site for details.

Answered: Are rudder mods needed to improve rudder authority (left x-wind landings)?

No, please, no Corbin mods!!! Nothing with the Swift can correct from poor pilot technique.

Yes, left crosswinds can be an issue with the Swift but good pilot techniques make it not to be a problem. Read the book "Compleat Talidragger" by Harvey S. Plourde to learn about gettimng the tail up too quickly. Frankly, this applies to any tail wheel airplane. With the Swift, let the tail come up late and be "attentive" on the rudder pedals and a successful left-crosswind take off will result.

Practice makes perfect. Start with low left crosswinds and progress to those more challenging.

A wide runway makes for an angled takeoff.

Answered: Does the 150 seat conversion put you closer to the pedals, or further away?

Rick,

They built the world a bit too close to my rear also. I am 5' 6" and have 150 seats. The only way to go! You need to make a modification as you install. Most 337's call for hardwood blocks under the seat rails to space the seat up so it will slide properly. The seat will however hit the spar cap which is OK for most...not OK for you and me. All you have to do is use thicker spacers. I think mine are 1.5 inches made with two pieces of 3/4 ply glued together. The thick spacers will allow the seat to slide over the spar and works very well. This is noted on my 337 for C150 seats which I gave to Swift years ago. If they do not have contact me and I can send to you. It is a very complete 337 for C150 seats. One word of caution.....think about the passenger seat. I built it up also...as I needed it that way to learn to fly the swift from the right seat. I have since removed the thick spacer and put in thin ones as many passengers are a bit taller than me.

You might also look at the bracket that is holding the cylinder. There is a spacer about a inch and a half long and another piece that is about 1/4 inch long. I have seen where the 1/4 section is missing and when the flap is fully in the down possition it allows the phenolic finger to come out of the track.

I installed a Challenger (K&N) air filter several years ago by STC. Maybe it won't stop as much dust as the Brackett, but it is bound to have less restriction and therefore more horse power. Annual maintenance is easy with the cleaner/oiler kit. My "silicon" readings on oil analysis compare favorabley with the Brackett.

Answered: Oil leak on O-300A pull starter clutch shaft?

Found the seal from Skyport Services in Ohio. They largely support Ercoupes, but the starter model on the O-300 and C-85 are the same Delco-Remy 1109656. The part was $8.95 and $5.00 shipping.
