Westover 2010

Newsletter #3
August 2010

Jackson, CA

September 24 - 26, 2010

Hello Swifters,

Only 8 short weeks remain until the 26th Annual West Coast Fly-In at Westover Field!

For those of you who have not yet made hotel reservations, block rate rooms are still available at the Amador Inn for September 24th – 26th. Please mention that you are with the Swift group when you make your reservation. If you will be an early bird arrival (Thursday the 23rd), the hotel is willing to give you the block rate on that day as well, if you tell them you are part of the group, and ask for the block rate. Please do not wait too much longer to make your reservations, as there are other functions happening that weekend, and the hotel will be releasing unreserved rooms from the block in September!

PREPARATIONS

Preparations are nearly complete. There are still a few volunteer positions needing to be filled. We have compiled a list of tasks below. Some need to be completed prior to the fly-in, and others are volunteer positions that will need to be filled during the event. Volunteer effort will be the backbone of our fly-in this year, and we need you!

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the folks below, who have volunteered their time:

Karl & Donna Johansson
Lana Marie & Dennis Wittman
Allan & Bonnie Erickson
Larry Rengstorf
Gerry & Carol Hampton
Pete Donath
Jim Roberts
Lois Lindley
Dave Richards
Don Thomson
Bob Carver
Bart Bingaman

Please check out The Volunteer Corner and if you can help with any of the highlighted tasks in the table, please contact me at erin@universalpilottraining.com. Thank you!

WESTOVER PHOTOS NEEDED!

I am putting together a CD with photos of all 26 years of West Coast National Swift Fly-In’s, and need your photos! This collection will be presented at the Saturday banquet, and copies will be available for sale and as door prizes.

Thank you to Don Thomson, Larry Rengstorf, and Allan & Bonnie Erickson for providing their photos. If you have photos of past Westover events that you can contribute, please scan and e-mail them to erin@universalpilottraining.com.

The Saturday banquet at Mel’s Diner will still feature a no-host bar.

AWARDS

We are happy to announce that we will again be presenting awards at the Saturday banquet! If you would like your Swift judged for an award, please mention to us when you pick up your registration packet, and we will give you a sticker for your prop card so the judges will know you want your Swift considered for awards. Award Categories include:

PREREGISTRATION

Last newsletter, I mentioned that we will be handling funding mostly via preregistration in 2010. This is necessary, since there is no longer a treasury, and there are always some sizeable up-front costs associated with an event of this size. The preregistration form is available as an attachment to this newsletter, as well as being available for download on the Swift website. Participants who preregister will pay only $15 per person, compared with $20 per person at the fly-in.

Please take a few minutes to print and complete a copy of the preregistration form. Make your check payable to Erin Oliver, and send both to me at 3229 Amarillo Ave. Simi Valley, CA 93063. YOUR CHECK WILL BE HELD until September 10th, 2010. If you are unable to attend Westover, and cancel prior to September 10th, I will return or destroy your check. Cancellations received later than September 10th will be refunded after the fly-in weekend.

We are looking forward to seeing you September 24th – 26th at Westover Field!

Blue Skies & Tailwinds,

Erin
